Patination is a technique to add colour chemically and or, to give the appearance of age to a piece. Copper left exposed to the natural elements in the air will react with the oxygen, adding to it, a layer of oxide on the coppers surface. It appears as a green colour. The outer layer formed by the oxidisation of the copper is known as “patina”. This course also introduces colouring using natural ingredients. In the course we work with patinas on copper and copper alloys: brass, nickel silver. Some, not all, recipes can also be applied to silver.
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: In this intensive course we will explore various ways of finishing the surfaces of different metals to create diverse effects: colours, shades, textures.

HEALTH AND SAFETY: Please wear comfortable, but not your ‘best’ clothes and shoes and for safety reasons, no open-toed sandals and please tie your hair back. Aprons are provided.
LUNCH: Lunch is not included. Please bring your own (we have a microwave and fridge) or try one of the many cafes in Leith who provide a great lunch. On the Sunday it is advisable to bring your own lunch.
PARKING: There is no on street parking directly outside the studio till after 6pm Monday to Friday and after 1pm on a Saturday, there are parking meters in the local area which go off at 5.30pm.
BUSES AND TRAM: The number 7, 14 and 21 buses run past the studio at 40 Ferry Road where we are located. You can also take the number 10 and 16 bus to the great junction street bridge. Please do check LRT bus website for all times of the buses. www.lrtbuses.com
The tram to the bottom of Leith Walk is only a short walking distance (approx. 10 minutes) along Great Junction Street to the crossroad with Ferry Road, turn left and you will find us next to Leith Library.
